The town of Purmamarca is located at the Northeastern corner of the Argentine Republic, 65 Km away from the Airport of Jujuy and 180 Km away from the City of Salta. The town is renowned for its 18th century church, the nave of which shows a neat cactus wood carpentry (Historic Monument), and for its peculiarly multicolored mountains. This town retains the uncluttered physiognomy and architecture of early colonial times.
The town's square hosts a craft fair where a variety of typical regional products can be purchased. This includes from tapestries and ornaments made with cactuses to delicious jams, all of which constitutes a picturesque sight for tourists.
Purmamarca is the starting point of excursions that will enable you to discover the most diverse landscapes. A strategic point between the Quebrada de Humahuaca and the mythical National Road No. 40, it is also the gate to the Jama Pass, which connects with Chile and the Pan-American Route leading to Bolivia. The nearby towns of Maimará, Tilcara, Humauaca, Salinas Grandes, the Cerro de los Siete Colores (Mountain of Seven Colors), and the Paseo de los Colorados are just some of the options this destination has to offer.
The region has a mild climate with an average temperature of 20 ºC, with maximum temperatures of 25 ºC and minimum temperatures of 2 ºC. The sunshine range is 93%, which affords the region clear days for almost the entire year.
